Jessie Baker
Jessie Baker, the teenaged banjo prodigy for Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper, is working on his first solo project, an all-instrumental effort that features Baker on banjo, Dudley Connell on guitar, David McLaughlin on mandolin and fellow Flamekeeper bandmates Michael Cleveland on fiddle and Marshall Wilborn on bass.
Connell was definitely impressed with the young picker’s prowess on the five string.
“Playing rhythm guitar under Jessie Baker’s right-hand banjo roll brings to mind three words: Duck and cover! Jessie’s note choices and sheer driving banjo style is uncompromising and takes no prisoners. So buy this CD, crank up the volume, then duck and cover. It’s an awesome experience.”
The CD, as yet untitled, will be released later this year on the Patuxent Music label.
Baker started playing in his family’s band, The Baker Boys, around his hometown of Martinsville, Ind., as a child. Karl Schifflet took young Baker under his wing and included him in his Big Country Show band for several summer tours before he joined Flamekeeper late last
