The Father and the First Lady...
Howdy Friends,
Some of you might have already heard it through the grapevine, but I wanted to bring the details to the masses...
Legislation passed in Kentucky last week that officially named Bowling Green the "Birthplace of Newgrass" and Sam Bush the "Father of Newgrass." The Resolution, sponsored by Representative Jim DeCesare, passed the Kentucky Senate 37-0 on March 25th. It passed the House on March 3rd, 99-0.
Regarding the announcement, Sam commented, "It's pretty amazing. As a kid who was raised on a farm out on Morgantown Road, it's humbling. I take a lot of pride in being from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The fact is not lost on me that the father of bluegrass, Bill Monroe ... is from Kentucky."
Following the announcement, Lynn Bush received a note from her cousin Bill May, former mayor of Frankfort, KY, saying, "So, since you are married to 'The Father of Newgrass Music,'" does that make you 'The First Lady of Newgrass Music?' You know you are in our book."
Regarding the note from Mayor May, Lynn was quoted as saying, "How cool is this?"
